Complete Health
Beyond Your Teeth and Gums
Your oral health is deeply connected to the health of the rest of your body. Infections, inflammation, or disease in the mouth can have a ripple effect, influencing other systems such as the heart and brain. By addressing oral health, our team at Smile Works Family Dentistry is also helping to prevent systemic conditions like cardiovascular disease and cognitive decline, ensuring your whole body stays healthy.
Whether we’re preventing and treating periodontal disease, identifying signs of inflammation in the body, or detecting conditions that may affect your cardiovascular or cognitive health, our team is equipped to support all of the above, all while taking your overall well-being into account.
Our expert hygienist Becky Owens Boyer and Chief Operating Officer Ashley Scott are both ReCODE certified. The ReCODE Method is a program developed by Dr. Dale Bredesen which aims to treat and reverse cognitive decline, including Alzheimer's, when detected early.
This method is a valuable part of our whole-body care philosophy. Conditions like Alzheimer’s have been linked to chronic inflammation and infection throughout the body, including the mouth. By taking a whole-body approach and viewing the mouth as a gateway to overall health, we can identify, address, and even help prevent risks that contribute to cognitive decline, ensuring the well-being of both your oral and cognitive health.
You can learn more about the ReCODE Method here.
Becky, our hygienist, and Ashley, our Chief Operating Officer, are also trained in the BaleDoneen Method, created by Drs. Bradley Bale and Amy Doneen. This method focuses on identifying and treating arterial inflammation, a critical factor in preventing heart attacks and strokes. By combining the work of both dentists and physicians, the BaleDoneen Method ensures a collaborative approach to keeping you healthy, with oral health playing a key role in this preventive strategy.
The BaleDoneen Root Cause Tree shown above is a visual tool used to identify and address the root causes of cardiovascular disease. It highlights the various factors that contribute to arterial inflammation, including periodontal disease and obstructive sleep apnea, which can increase the risk of heart attacks and strokes. The BaleDoneen Method allows healthcare providers to examine the interconnected nature of these issues, and collaborate to develop a personalized treatment plan that targets inflammation at its source, ultimately preventing cardiovascular events and promoting overall health.

"Have been going here since they opened. Dr Gray is a wonderful and compassionate person. She's also the best dentist I've ever had. I'm always teasing her about her perfectionist tendencies but she always delivers the best care possible. She also knows her medicine and has caught things involving drug interactions that no one else seems to. She really cares about making sure you're healthy and keeping you that way. And her staff is wonderful. They always make me smile when I go in."

"I always feel so confident that I am getting the best care with Dr. Gray and her entire team! They are definitely giving the latest treatments and considering my total health, not just my dental health! So excited that I only had one small cavity and Dr. Gray offers a treatment for that, that doesn't require any drill or anesthetic!"

"The dentist and staff detected an infected root canal procedure, that I had had done in 2022, before I moved to Columbus. Dr Gray referred me to both an endodontist and a periodontist for opinions on treatment. I ended up needing sinus surgery in 2023 for a Pseudomonas infection, that I had barely any symptoms for. This summer, I had a hygienist named Becky, who I was very impressed with. I appreciate their conscientiousness, and I recommend Smile Works."
